NHS EMIS Legacy Systems Pulled

Clinical systems provider EMIS will be pulling its legacy systems from NHS England as it does not meet the requirements of the new GP Systems of Choice contract (GPSoC).

The company will be focusing solely on its flagship product, EMIS Web, after removing its LV and PCS systems from England.

“Following a comprehensive review, we have concluded that neither EMIS LV nor EMIS PCS can be developed to meet the new GPSoC requirements and have taken the difficult decision to withdraw both of these legacy systems in England,” claimed Matt Murphy, managing director of the firm.

“We fully support the NHS’ vision for integrated patient care and will focus on developing EMIS Web to meet the needs of not only all our GP customers but whole health economies,” he continued.

“For those of our customers still using [legacy systems], we offer a proven, safe and seamless transition path to EMIS web,” he added.

Much Work Ahead For Transition Progress

As a result of this move, more than 800 practices will need to find a new service to migrate to within the next 12 months.

Of the 4364 English practices using EMIS products, 3500 have now upgraded to the flagship product, leaving less than 10% that have yet to order the upgrade.

Until the old services are withdrawn at the end of March 2015, the company will continue to support and maintain systems in a limited capacity, making clinical safety updates and rectifying bugs.

EMIS also added that while they regret the impact the changes will have on users, it is a necessary step and customers will be supported every step of the way.
