NHS England Begins Search For “Pioneering Healthcare Innovators”

NHS England has launched its NHS Innovation Accelerator programme together with UCLPartners and The Health Foundation.

The project was introduced by the health service’s medical director Sir Bruce Keogh, who is inviting healthcare pioneers from around the world to develop and scale tried and tested innovations across the NHS.

The programme focuses on the conditions and culture changes required to enable the health service to adopt innovative technologies at scale and pace, with the aim of improving outcomes and giving patients more access to the latest products, services and technology.

It is hoped the Innovator Accelerator will assist NHS England in delivering its Five Year Forward View which outlines how the organisation can tackle increasing pressures including the ageing population.

Priorities outlined in the document include state-of-the-art development, cost-effective solutions and new ways of delivering care and the programme is designed to support this.

“The Innovation Accelerator will build on our enviable history of discovering and innovation by embracing cutting-edge healthcare innovators from around the world to improve patient care while reducing costs and providing better value for the taxpayer,” Sir Bruce claimed.

“Innovation is integral to a sustainable and successful NHS and scaling cutting-edge innovations can improve patient care,” added Dr Mahiben Maruthappu, senior fellow in NHS England’s Chief Executive’s office.”

“The NHS Innovation Accelerator aims to build on our proud tradition of supporting advancements in healthcare, helping to secure our position as one of the best and most progressive healthcare systems in the world,” the doctor claimed.

Candidates Must Demonstrate Strong Experience

Applicants are expected to have experience in innovation in healthcare and currently be involved with leading and working on new technologies that have the potential to make a good difference to patient outcomes.

Those successful will be offered a range of support to spread their innovations across the NHS.
