Sussex NHS Trust Chooses ECM Solution

Jul 03, 2015

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has chosen an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution to store and manage documents, images, video and other content.

ECM and Business Process Management (BMP) software provider Alfresco Software is delivering its Alfresco One ECM Software to the NHS organisation.

When considering possible products, it was essential for the Trust that the chosen solution was able to integrate with Carenotes, Sussex’s choice of Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system which holds uploaded content such as patient documents.

Alfresco One was chosen because its open source nature allows for scalability and flexibility which can meet the needs of the Trust both now and in the future.

“We always evaluate open source solutions alongside proprietary as well believe they can offer greater flexibility, better value for money and are easier to integrate,” claimed Theresa Jones, head of IT solutions at the Sussex Trust.

“We chose Alfresco because it appears to have all the functionality we need both now and for the future,” she added.

Better For Clinicians, Better For Patients

Sussex will be using Alfresco One as a headless repository which will eliminate the need for training and integrating seamlessly into the familiar interface of Carenotes, making the transition for users as straightforward as possible.

All documents from the Trust’s key clinical systems will be brought into a single repository using the solution so staff can benefit from a streamlined process with more accurate indexing of documents and a reduction in the time spent looking for documents.

Clinicians will also be able to respond to the needs of patients in a timely manner, ultimately enabling the Trust to deliver better patient care.

The implementation of the new solution will happen in stages, beginning with the Trust initially migrating 2.5 million documents that are currently residing in the EPR system.
