Oct 16, 2014

Education software supplier Compass Computer Consultants has partners with disaster recovery provider Plan B to afford education institutions an affordable and fast disaster recovery service.

Via the partnership, Compass will not be able to offer further education organisations disaster recovery of their IT servers in under an hour, which is claims is the fastest recovery time available from any cloud service provider in the world.

“Educational institutions store significant volumes of sensitive data and need reassurance that it can be quickly and completely recovered in the event of a worst case scenario, particularly during busy enrolment and examination periods,” claimed the firm’s managing director Andy Makeham.

“The partnership with Plan B will enhance Compass’ portfolio by allowing us to deliver a fast, automated and affordable disaster recovery service to our further education customers.

“It will also provide reassurance to students and teachers that their data is fully protected against loss to assure the continuity of learning that they depend on to achieve their goals,” he added.

Compass claims that technology in this area is also becoming more essential for organisations due to the increasing risk of emergencies created by floods, fire and terrorism – downtime is said to cost UK businesses £2bn a year in lost revenue.

Plan B aims to help businesses identify and manage risk to business continuity caused by IT failure or damage and can now extend this to learning environments.

It hopes this will ensure reduced economic and social impact for students and teachers in the event of a disaster.

The firm specialises in IT servers, helping further education providers to fully recover all servers in approximately 15 to 45 minutes while minimising the loss of vital academic information and student data.

Plan B “Stands Out” With Pre-Recovery Service

Plan B claims to be the only disaster recover as a service (DRaaS) provider able to offer a pre-recovery service where IT systems are fully recovered and tested in advance, helping to guarantee 100% success of a full recovery.

“The cost of IT downtime can make or break an organisation with downtime for the average business costing as much as £1.5m per annum,” claimed the company’s CEO Tim Dunger.

“This is one of the reasons we are seeing such a demand for our unique pre-recovery service.

“Working with Compass will give us a great opportunity to align with a trusted brand and raise awareness of the importance of the pre-recovery option, which will ultimately give further education institutions peace of mind,” he added.
