Former TalkTalk CIO Joins Police ICT

The Police ICT Company, an organisation recently set up to support UK Police forces in making the best use of technology, has appointed a new Chief Executive.

Martin Wyke, who previously held the CIO position at telecoms firm TalkTalk, took on the role of CEO halfway through last month.

According to the Police ICT Company, Wyke has 30 years of experience in IT solutions designed to drive forward efficiency and effectiveness with a proven track record of leading IT organisations whilst stabilising service.

He has also been involved with initiating and delivering significant business and digital transformational programmes.

During his time at TalkTalk, Wyke was responsible for all IT and customer-facing platforms and ownership of the delivery of all technology programmes.

Prior to 2012, he was CTO and member of the Operating Board at Virgin Media for three years and has also held CIO positions at Debenhams, Energis and Littlewoods Shop Direct Group.

The Police ICT Company claims that the appointment of a Chief Executive is just one strand of activity in an ambition programme.

“Martin’s appointment is crucial as the Company strives to enabling Policing and associated bodies to make the best use of technology to deliver efficient and effective Policing and improve public safety,” claimed Essex Police and Crime Commissioner and Chair of the Police ICT Board of Directors Nick Alston.

“This is a significant leadership role, providing strategic direction and commercial expertise. The ability to combine a drive towards long-term vision while delivering immediate benefits to forces – both financial and operational – is essential,” he added.

Saving Money, Increasing Efficiency

Alongside the rest of the leadership team, Wyke will be involved with transferring a number of national IT solutions from the Home Office to the Police ICT Company and identifying opportunities to secure value for money by helping law enforcement agencies to get the best deal from suppliers.

It is estimated that eventually, the Police ICT Company programme could see savings of up to £150m per year for Police forces.
