Herts Urgent Care To Support Integrated Care For 620,000 Patients

Oct 02, 2014

Herts Urgent Care, a not-for-profit providing healthcare services to Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has selected an unscheduled patient management system.

Healthcare IT solutions provider Advanced Health and Care will be delivering its Adastra product to the organisation to allow it to access real-time patient data from three different GP primary care systems.

Adastra will allow Herts Urgent Care to connect to Healthcare Gateway’s Media Interoperability Gateway (MIG).

According to Advanced, this will allow the not-for-profit to have immediate visibility and 24 hour access to patient information including medical summaries and up-to-date details of medication within urgent care services.

Patient permission will be required to access the records and once this is received, clinicians can also see historical surgical procedures, blood pressure examinations and test results.

It is hoped Herts Urgent Care will now improve the safety and quality of care it offers to its 620,000 patients from 60 GP practices across the area.

“We have a longstanding relationship with Advanced and had no hesitation in selecting them as our trusted MIG partner,” claimed Paul Gauld, head of IT at the organisation.

“By linking together three GP systems via Adastra we can now provide the clinicians that run out services with instant access to a deeper level of patient which wasn’t possible before.

“This access will assist them to increase efficiency and make better informed decisions to improve patient care and reduce the knock-on effect of unnecessary repeat admissions,” he added.

Scheme In Process Of Being Rolled Out

A pilot scheme including 11 Hertfordshire GP practices will be in process until March 2015 and aims to deliver around 240 out-of-hours patient consultations a week.

After the pilot, a phased rollout will begin, starting with an additional 49 practices.
