HSCIC Claims PACS Exit Is On Track
The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) has said that NHS Trusts yet to exit from National Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) contracts are set to do so by June 2016.
Digital Health News reports that there are nine Trusts in the North East, Yorkshire and Humber and East of England and East Midlands which are currently working towards a safe exit from the contracts put in place in 2004.
The first to complete the exit from the National PACS Programme were Trusts in the South, the North West and West Midlands, while the London PACS Programme closed successfully in July.
HSCIC says its PACS team is now focusing its efforts on supporting Trusts in the NEEEM region to leave their contracts which were originally due to expire 15th June 2015 before a two-year extension was offered.
Most Trusts in this area are said to have accepted the extension, but two thirds have now localised their data, the Centre says.
The main priorities for those still to exit are having enough local storage to allow for the return of data from central store and they have infrastructure in place to allow a safe and rapid transfer of the data.
“We are confident that all Trusts will safely exit by the deadline and continue to work closely with partners to manage this,” the HSCIC claimed.
Information published by the organisation indicates that it is ahead of schedule as in December 2014, there were 23.4 million studies to localise, whereas there is now eight million studies to localise.
