HSCIC Sets Out To Modernise Smartcard Printing Estate

The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) has signed a contract for specialist Smartcard printers across its NHS estate.

HSCIC, which provides information, data and IT systems for health and social care, recognised its need to refresh and modernise its existing systems.

It opted for principal IT services business SCC to implement the new solution to enabled improved healthcare service delivery.

Alongside ID solutions supplier Essentra Security, SCC will provide HSCIC with the Smartcard printers it uses for authorising and issuing ID Smartcards to staff requiring access to NHS systems.

The contract will last for an initial three-year period with an option to extend twice for a further 12 months.

A Magicard Enduro+ custom printer has been tested throughout an evaluation period and integrate into a new card management system that HSCIC developed as part of its Care Identity Services programme.

The new printers will be rolled out across all regional health service establishments throughout England and Wales from April 2015.
