NI Police To Procure Managed IT Service

Aug 27, 2015

The Police Service of Northern Ireland launched a procurement process for managed services for its core IT requirements.

According to a tender in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), the core IT managed service tower will include the management of hosting services and provision of application support services.

Prospective bidders must also be able to demonstrate they can provide application support services, along with desktop, laptop and peripherals and service desk requirements in order to support the Force’s ‘Keeping People Safe’ core function.

There are four services areas which the chosen managed service will cover:

  • Service desk which will operate 24/7 and acts as a single point of contact between the service provider and users in the organisation
  • Desktops, laptops and peripherals, including the support necessary for these devices
  • Hosting services which include the back-up of all data and systems
  • Application support including bespoke applications.

“PSNI’s ICT Strategy 2014 outlines its planned investment in ICT over the period April 2014 to March 2017. This strategy address maintaining existing ICT services upon which Policing operations are dependent and also providing powerful new capabilities to support continuous improvement in day-to-day Policing and back office functions,” the document explains.

“A key tenet of this Strategy is maintaining strong alignment between policing needs and the application of ICT, both in timeliness and value for money. This includes developing, implementing and operating new ICT initiatives which support the broader programme of business change, thereby improving service delivery, compliance with regulations and addressing other organisational needs,” it adds.

The initial contract is expected to last for three year with two options to extend, each for a period of two years.
