Royal Mail Awards New IT Contract

Jan 20, 2015

The Royal Mail Group has chosen a supplier to aid its IT transformation programme with the provision of desktop services for 30,000 employees.

IT infrastructure services provider Computacenter will be responsible for providing the postal service with service desk, security operations and distributed desktop services across its headquarters, sorting and distribution offices.

The postal service is currently trying to modernise itself, increase growth and use technology more wisely.

Its IT transformation programme intends to save money and improve services by using a multi-supplier service “Towers” approach.

Royal Mail’s deal with Computacenter is set to increase efficiency, service performance and improve the user experience for staff.

“Delivery companies are technology-led companies and IT transformation throughout Royal Mail is central to the company’s parcels and letter business,” claimed the newly-privatised company’s CIO Catherine Doran.

“The transition to our new IT suppliers will help promote innovation and ensure best practice is embedded into our IT function.

“This will provide the technology the technological backbone required to deliver further innovations for our customers. Computacenter will perform a vital role in this delivery,” she added.

Technology Investment And The Postal Service

In September 2014, Royal Mail introduced a new tracking platform for e-retailers, just one of the ways it is embracing modern technology.

The Shipping and Tracking API allows customers to process orders easily and seamlessly enable shipping and tracking services.

Computacenter also works with the Post Office and was awarded a contract by the firm for an End User Computer Tower that serves 11,500 branches and 4000 head office users.
