Surrey Uni Ehancing Student Experience With Mobile Timetabling

The University of Surrey is using a mobile time tabling solution to transform the learning experience for students and campus-wide efficiencies.  

The educational institution is using Advanced Learning's mobile timetabling and resource management product CMISGo. 

So far, the programme has helped Surrey to manage 15,000 teaching events and remove the need for  260,000 paper documents.  

The cloud based solution is specifically developed for use with mobile technologies and enables both staff and students to personalised exam and course timetables via desktop, mobile phone and tablet devices.  

Changes such as updated course timetables, class reschedules and room changes can all be communicated via CMISGo , automatically appearing in a user's native device. 

This functionality can minimise disruption to teaching and learning and because it is cloud based, users have 24/7 access provided they have their device with them which ultimately means students miss less classes and there are fewer late arrivals. 

The solution is also removing administrative costs for the university and complies with its sustainability goals by significantly reducing the use of paper.  

Surrey is now considering rolling out further elements of the CMISGo product following its success so far - this would include smarter resource management.

"Implementing [this solution] was the next logical step to further increase operational efficiency by enabling students and academics to get easier access to their teaching and examination timetables through mobile technology," claimed Harri ap Rees, deputy registrar and director of student administration at Surrey University.  

"Our strategy is committed to improving students' experiences and by integrating with mobile technologies CMISGo is integral to this. The system gives students all the information they need at their fingertips in keeping with young people's expectations today. 

"The feedback we have received has been very positive. Students have quicker access to their timetables in a much more accessible format, and when changes do happen, they are being notified much more seamlessly.  

"Timetable packs could be be up to 20 pages long in hard-copy format. They took an inordinate amount of time to produce without factoring in any changes to course schedules. CMISGo is supporting our drive to become paperless and has freed-up administrators to focus on more value-added activities," ap Rees added.
