Capita Chosen To Provide Hampshire Council With Child IT Services

Hampshire County Council has chosen business outsourcing solutions provider Capita to provide it with new IT systems for children’s services and schools.

During the £24m contract, the council says the company will supply the council with software, implementation services, data migration services, systems integration, enhanced reporting capabilities and on-going support and maintenance.

“We have challenged private sector specialists to pull together a solution that will work for us, and, in doing so, rationalise and simplify the systems we used,” claimed Cllr Keith Mans, the local authority’s executive lead member for children’s services.

“The aim is to create systems that are easier to use, allowing information to be shared more easily across teams – an important factor in improving our ability to secured improved outcomes for children and young people,” he added.

Hampshire says the contract with Capita will support a business transformation programme within its children’s services division. It hopes this will achieve efficiencies and improve service delivery.

According to the local authority, the deal has an initial term of five years with an extension option to reach a maximum of 20 years. It is expected a quarter of the agreement will be sub-contracted to third parties for specialist software products and consultancy.

The council says it chose to award a single supplier because it would allow access to a single view of child’s data and would lead to more “joined up” information systems, while improving value for money.

The programme is expected to be rolled out in August of this year, says Mans.

Capita also recently won a contract with the Ministry of Defence.
