DWP Signs Cloud-Based Protection Contract

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has struck a deal with consulting and outsourcing solutions provider CSC to protect its infrastructure from attacks and intrusion.

DWP used the CloudStore to procure CSC’s services in a deal that the Department hopes will save £1m over two years, as well as increasing scope, coverage and IT capability.

The supplier will provide the Department with its Government Security Operations Centre (SOC) which will deliver protective monitoring.

CSC claims the solution needs no software or hardware investment, reducing the time frame and associated costs for the procurement cycle.

The firm says that offering protective monitoring “as a service” is of particular benefit to public sector organisations because it allows innovation without compromising security.

It also claims its solution reduces the risk to information, assists legal and regulatory compliance and government accreditation and reduces gaps in cyber defences by gathering threat intelligence from one client environment to further protect all clients.

CSC will be responsible for the end-to-end service and maintaining accreditation.

DWP “Moving Towards Digital Age”

“The DWP is moving towards digital and online delivery as it strives to meet services ‘on-demand’ in the digital age,” claimed Pankaj Mistry, head of IT security and Departmental IT security officer at the Department, in an interview with a UK government IT publication.

“DWP is going to be a large developer and provider of digital services through provision of new infrastructure and technology.

“The SOC will be expected to protect the new services. Incidentally, the DWP is always looking for talent in digital services field as we see this as a key capability growth area,” he added.
