Google To Deliver Digital Masterclass To Newcastle SMEs

Mar 04, 2014

Newcastle City Council has announced Google will be delivering its Juice Bar workshop to local businesses as part of Go Digital Newcastle, the city’s scheme to become super-connected.

According to the programme’s website, the search giant’s visit “will help local businesses learn how to use the web to squeeze every last drop out of their business opportunities.”

The session, happening on March 7th, will consist of a series of workshops, talks and presentations on how companies can use the Internet to transform the way they work, reach more customers and save time and money.

Female entrepreneurs are particularly being encouraged to attend the Juice Bar: YouTube businesswoman Lauren Luke is a co-host for the event, while Newcastle MP Chi Onwurah will also be delivering a talk.

“It’s particularly important of International Women’s Day on March 8th to remember that by equalising men’s and women’s economic participation we could add 10% to the economy by 2030,” Onwurah claimed.

“Digital should be an essential part of that – and women, and as many businesses as possible, should take advantage of the expertise on offer from Google,” she added.

Meanwhile, both representatives from the council and Google stressed the importance of small-to-medium enterprises investing modern technology.

“The Internet is transforming the way we live our lives and the smart, successful businesses of the future will be those that recognise this,” said Cllr Nick Forbes, leader of the authority.

Dan Cobley, managing director of Google UK, noted a recent report that found small businesses actively using the web can grow 8 times faster than firms with no online presence.

Go Digital Newcastle officially launched last month and is predicted to boost Newcastle’s economy by £150m.
