Home Office CTO Denise McDonagh Set To Retire
The Home Office is seeking a new chief technology officer (CTO) and chief digital officer (CDO) as current CTO Denise McDonagh prepares to retire.
McDonagh has worked in government IT for around 37 years – she was former director of G-Cloud and received a CBE last year for services to the IT world.
The news may come as a surprise to some as just last week that she announced a huge shakeup of Home Office technology.
McDonagh’s successor and the successful applicant for the newly created CDO role will report to Mike Parsons, Home Office chief operating officer (COO).
According to the CTO job advert on the Civil Service Jobs site, the person holding the role is responsible for a team of 1000 tech professionals, supporting a Department for 30,000 employees.
It adds that the annual spend is £254m on resources with £71m capital.
“The post holder will provide strong leadership and senior-level advocacy for the delivery of technology solutions that support the Department’s current and future business transformation programmes,” says the posting.
CDO Has Wide Range Of Responsibilities
In the advert for the CDO, the Home Office claims the successful applicant will take charge of a team of 300 digital professionals with an annual spend of £29m.
The posting adds that key accountabilities for this role include working with key business stakeholders, leading the effective delivery of Departmental digital strategies, creating a data-driven Home Office and exchange best practices across government.
