Sussex Finalises EPR Deal

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has chosen software provider Advanced Health and Care to supply it with an electronic patient record (EPR) system.

The contract is at the heart of the Trust’s IT modernisation strategy, which aims to create a new standard for healthcare.

Advanced will supply Sussex with its Carenotes product – claiming this is a next generation system that will support the Trust in the delivery of integrated mental health services.

The new programme is set to replace a legacy system that Sussex has had in place for around 15 years.

According to Advanced, its replacement will be faster, more intuitive, cost-effective and increase efficiencies, allowing staff to spend more time with patients.

It will also allow medical staff access to patient information in real time and integrate with existing systems such as the Summary Health Care Record.

Clinicians will be able to access information via mobile devices, allowing access and updates at any time.

Around 5000 staff will be using the new EPR, which be rolled out over the next two years, across all of Sussex’s clinical pathways.

The Trust’s and Advanced’s partnership will initially last for five years, but there is the potential for the deal to be extended for a further five.

Trust Is “Moving Forward”

“Our partnership with [the firm] is a significant step forward for the Trust which will improve our healthcare delivery,” claimed Dr Kay Macdonald, Sussex clinical academic director.

“The new system will securely capture relevant data given to us by service users and the staff who are caring for them.

“Clinical staff have been closely involved in selecting the patient information system, which is both of high-quality and cost effective. Carenotes is robust, innovative and flexible enough to meet the demands of the different types of services we provide,” she added.
