UK And Israel To Provider Joint Research Funding

The governments of the UK and Israel have signed a letter of Intent regarding joint funding for cyber research.

The news follows on from a March announcement that the two countries had formed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the two governments work together to develop digital skills.

This Memorandum was signed by government CTO Liam Maxwell, while the new letter was signed by The Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance.

This organisation is dedicated to providing a strategic director on information assurance, cyber security and e-crime.

Both Whitehall and its Israeli counterpart have agreed to set aside £1.2m of collaborative funding for a cyber-research initiative via the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

According to the government, the aim is to encourage academics from each country to work together more effectively.

Six Areas Will Benefit The Most From Collaboration

Six areas have been chosen in consultation with academics that are said to benefit the most from working together.

These are identity management, governance/regulating cyber security, privacy assurance and perceptions, mobile and cloud security, human aspects of security and cryptography.

The EPSRC is taking proposals for joint research activities between now and the 24^th June this year.

These can be relevant to any area in cyber security and both new and established partnerships are welcome.

Projects are expected to last between 25 and 30 months, starting in Spring 2015 and ending no later than December 2017.
