UK Cloud Providers Falling Behind According To Research

UK cloud service suppliers are failing to keep up with the fluctuating market and falling short of meeting new customer demands, according to research by IT services provider MTI.

The company claims cloud products are evolving too fast for the British tech sector to meet the ever-changing requirements of their clients.

“Our research demonstrates there is a clear contrast between what clients want and what resellers and service providers are delivering,” said Chris Roberts, head of channel sales at the firm.

“This highlights the challenge that resellers are faced with where client service demands can shift on a regular basis as technology evolves. It’s very difficult for resellers to be flexible enough to provide solutions as and when they come into fashion or when demand from clients peaks,” he added.

The survey discovered that Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) is the service most asked for by UK businesses, with 77% of respondents claiming it is a top request from their customers.

Despite this, of the cloud companies quizzed, only 44% actually provide IaaS directly, 22% can supply it via vendors and 20% are simply considering offering it within the next year.

On the other hand, 75% of those surveyed can provide security services either directly or through a vendor, but report that they are actually seeing the least demand for managed security facilities.

The research also says that 62.5% of companies who responded said at least 40% of their annual revenue is from services, with most claiming services made up between 41% and 60% of their revenue.

However, MTI does not clarify exactly what “services” includes.
