3M Library Systems has revealed it is bringing its 3m Cloud Library Digital Lending System to the UK.
According to the firm, this expansion with benefit lenders in the country because it offers libraries more options to meet the public's demand for more digital content.
3M claims to be already well established in the US and Canada eLending market where its technology is available at over 1000 libraries.
The company says its product simplifies digital lending services by offering users a unique PIN to log into the 3M Cloud Library.
They can then choose to check out and read or listen to a large variety of electronic content via their smartphones or tablets on dedicated 3M apps, their desktop computers and on dedicated e-readers.
3M also offers Discovery Stations, full-sized interactive touch screens that allow library-goers to browse the digital collection and select eBooks and eAudiobooks.
In the UK, the recently created Leadership for Libraries Taskforce has identified digital enablement for libraries as a key priority.
The firm hopes that its launch in the country will bring awareness and boost digital lending as public libraries realise the benefits of offering this type of service.

"We created 3M Cloud Library to be easy for libraries to manage and a dream for readers to use, and have seen tremendous growth. The next frontier for us is bringing the benefits of these services to new territories to encourage borrowers to make greater use of libraries," he added.
3M has also moved into Australia alongside its expansion into the UK.
