What Is A SAIL Address?

Sep 20, 2017

Is it different to a Registered Office Address?

When setting up a company, you need to provide Companies House with multiple addresses. Alongside a registered office for your new business, you will also need to provide your home address and the home address of any other directors. If you want the home addresses of your directors to remain private, you’ll need a director service address as well.

Another address that a company might has is a Single Alternative Inspection Location, or, SAIL Address. This is an alternative location to the company’s registered office address for the inspection of company records and registers. It was introduced with the implementation of the Companies Act 2006 on 1st October 2009.

It is only possible to have one SAIL address, and it must be located in the part of the UK where the company is registered. For example, if the company was registered in Scotland, its SAIL address must be Scottish.

To notify Companies House of your company’s SAIL address, you need to file the form AD02. If you are changing an existing SAIL address, you need the AS03 form. An AD04 needs to be filed if the company is reverting to its registered office address as the location of company records and registers.

The SAIL address needs to be included in your annual Confirmation Statement.
