What is share capital & where can I find out how much it is?

Jul 02, 2014

The Share Capital is the total amount of shares held in a company. If you need to find out the Share capital, there are two places to look:

-          The Memorandum of Association which should state the initial share capital (at the time of the formation)

-          The latest Annual Return should have a full list of members attached. This should take into account new shares issued or transferred until it was filed. If you do not have a copy, it is possible to obtain one from Companies House for just £1.
