Government Launches Online Cyber Skills Training

Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey has revealed a new online training course aimed at helping legal and accountancy professionals protect themselves from cyber-attacks.

The training was developed by Whitehall and industry and will not only help lawyers and accountants themselves, but also equip them to advise clients and cyber security matters.

The course will develop awareness of common cyber risks and threats that can be experienced in the workplace, as well as how to prevent or deal with these.

Advice is also provided on how to safeguard digital information, raise awareness of security issues with clients and give examples on how to deal with things like a breach in the workplace.

The government hopes this will help UK businesses prevent information breaches that have the potential to cost millions of pounds.

“Members of the legal and accountancy professions deal with sensitive client information on a daily basis and can be a target for cyber-attacks,” claimed Vaizey.

“The new course we are launching today makes the cyber security part of the day job for lawyers and accountants.

“It provides members of both professions with tailored and relevant guidance on how they can better protect themselves and their clients from cyber threats.

“It’s essential government and industry work together to protect UK companies from online attacks that can cause millions of pounds worth of damage,” he added.

Part Of UK Cyber Security Strategy

The new course is funded by the 5-year £860m National Cyber Security Programme that aims to make the UL the safest place to do business online.

Last month, the government launched a cyber-security course with the Open University aimed at a larger audience.
