Vodafone To Provide Most Of Wales With 3G Or 4G
Telecoms giant Vodafone is set to strengthen mobile phone services across Wales by bringing 3G and 4G mobile coverage to more than 94% of the population.
According to the firm, the arrival of ultrafast 4G will help thousands of residents and visitors stay in touch with friends and family and give them better access to local services.
It also believes its increased investment will help businesses enable employees to work they want to and when they want to.
Local businesses are set to be able to react faster to the needs of customers and introduce remote working practices for staff to help reduce costs and increase productivity.
“Connectivity is a key priority for the Welsh government and the news that Vodafone is investing in Wales with its network and services is very welcome,” claimed Economy Minister Edwina Hart.
“The rollout of Vodafone’s 4G will mean fast Internet speed which will benefit residents, businesses and visitors alike,” she added.
Vodafone is currently investing £1bn across the UK on network and services, bringing stronger indoor and outdoor network coverage and mobile Internet access to more communities and businesses.
The company is currently rolling outs its ultrafast 4G in Caerphilly, Cardiff, Connah’s Quay, Newport and Penarth.
It was also recently announced that Bridgend in South Wales had become the 400th community to benefit from the arrival of Vodafone’s ultrafast 4G service.
Rural Areas To Benefit Too
The firm operates a Rural Open Sure Signal programme that aims to bring 3G coverage to areas that traditionally struggled with network connections.
Sites in Denbighshire, Pembrokeshire and Gwynedd are amongst the 100 shortlisted communities to receive coverage as part of this project.
Such technology has already been successfully installed in the rural community of Pendine in Carmarthenshire.
“Our network improvements across Wales will ensure more people and businesses have the opportunity to thrive in today’s digital world, whilst the launch of 4G will give them the opportunity to access and share data faster than ever before,” claimed Vodafone CTO Jorge Fernandes.
“However, this is only the start as we continue to invest in our network services across the country,” Fernandes added.
