@UK is actively seeking interns to provide with work experience.  There are 3 key programs.

  1. International
  2. New Media and Journalism
  3. Cloud Technology

International

@UK is seeking to expand internationally, and has a mixture of business and web design/new media intern-ships.

International Business

If you are interested in helping set up an @UK venture in your county then you can join @UK for an express tour of the business and understand what is required to set things up in your country.

Your express tour will cover working with our start up division to help create new businesses, followed by work with our large purchasing customers assisting them with providing Savings and Sustainability for their supply chains, along with our large suppliers.  You will also work on tenders and bids so that you understand the process along with the key unique selling points of @UK and its cloud technology platform.

Finally you will set up our subsidiary in your country and start marketing it.

International Web Design and New Media

We are setting up individual sites for the G20 countries, and have a number of intern-ships available to allow you to use our unique site creation technology and provide a system that is tailored to your country.

There are two parts to the work.

  1. Appropriately branded sites for your country (Not @UK)
  2. Creating key customer sites for your country, and assisting start ups in your country.

Initially, @UK is focused on helping its existing customers to sell into the G20 countries of the world, however if you are from a non G20 country and are interested in participating it will still be possible.

New Media and Journalism

@UK has developed some great new technology for creating incredibly efficient high performance websites.  This means that we can support the creation of an on-line news platform with no requirement to charge for the infrastructure.

There are 3 parts to creating a great new media publication business.

  1. Content
  2. Advertisers
  3. Technology

We can provide both the advertisers and the technology, you need to provide the content.  We have experienced journalists that have written for papers such as the Times and Telegraph to help you out.

Sites need to be attractive, and we want to showcase talented designers.

Cloud Technology

@UK is at the leading edge of cloud technology, and strongly believes that it has the most efficient cloud platform by at least 2 orders of magnitude.  The key to creating the platform has been intelligent software, and so @UK normally has a ratio of around 5 software developers for each infrastructure team member, and our infrastructure team also write software.

Unusually we are not an x years of experience in some software or other.  We audition for truly talented developers, and like people with talent in any development language.  The sort of things that have got jobs at @UK and previously @Software PLC are as follows:-

  •  A screen saver in assembler (with our logo)
  • Connect 4 in Java (with in 6 months of release of Java)
  • Medical Simulator in Java
  • Artificial language creation in Forth
  • Content management system in c#
  • Database benchmarking system in c#

We also support research projects and 2 of our team got Phd's in Artificial Intelligence along with another that got an MSc.

Software Development Jobs

We are looking for experienced software developers that can immediately join our team and start developing web applications using our framework.

The key initial skills are as follows:-

  • C#
  • MS SQL
  • XML/XSLT transforming into HTML
  • CSS (less important)
  • Javascript

Our framework automates the creation of menus, forms and database interfaces.  There is mixture of work such as creating advanced controls for the framework and creating pages within our applications.  You will need some training on the framework so that you can automatically generate the forms etc. from database tables and views, and ideally you will be experienced in c# and t-sql so that you can extend things where appropriate.
