GDS Director Leaves For Australia

The Government Digital Service (GDS) has revealed that one of its directors, Paul Shetler, is leaving the UK to work Australia’s answer to GDS.

Shetler, is was also the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), play a key part in delivering four MoJ digital transformation exemplar services.

He also has over two decades of experience working on large scale IT and organisational change projects.

Shetler will now be taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Australian Digital Transformation Office (DTO).

According to the country’s Minister for Communications Malcolm Turnbull, Shetler was the outstanding candidate in the recruitment process and will hold the CEO title for five years.

The DTO was established as am Executive Agency within the Communications Portfolio in Australia on 1^st July 2015 with the aim of delivering government services that are easier to access, simpler to use and faster to transact.

UK Supports Digital Governments Around The World

GDS claims the creation of a DTO in Australia is “great news” and it is happy to welcome Australia into the international community of governments using technology for simpler, clearer and faster digital services.

“We’re lucky enough to have close working relationships with colleagues all over the world, so I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities to share knowledge and experience with the Australian team as it grows in the years to come,” claimed GDS Executive Director Mike Bracken.

The UK government is also working with a number of other countries around the world to help them build their own digital governments, for example, the New Zealand government has already adapted the source code for GOV.UK while building its own govt.nz.
